CD Cover Anlaysis 1
This is a front cover of a CD from the artists Mika, which was released in 2007. The front cover at first sight is an attractive CD design. The colours and the symmetry in which the lines are formed, help make the images stand out and make it look as though it is coming out towards the viewer. The name of the artist 'Mika' is clearly visible and is noticeable straight away. This is one of the main conventions of a CD front cover. One of the other main conventions of a CD front cover have been followed. This is the name of the album, this is because this particular CD has Pacific album name.
The colours used on this CD front cover are very vibrant and colourful. This is done for several purposes. One of the main purposes of the colours are for commercial and advertising purposes. The bright colours are used cleverly and attract audiences attention, once they are drawn in by the colours they instantly see the name 'Mika' because of the way the text is arranged to be jumping out at you.
The second reason for the use of the vibrant colours is to indicate the genre of music. Mikas music follows under the genre under Pop, this genre is supported by the use of the colours which are supported with the imagery and text fonts. The colours used help to represent his moods that are given off in his songs. The bright vibrant colours help to portray happiness which is support by the use of specific imagery on the front cover.
The imagery used consists of very simple cartoon pictures which possibly represent his lifestyle and the way he lives, still living life as a child and never growing up. Another interpretation of the imagery could is simply to show how he lives his life. The use of flowers to show happiness in his life, and also the display of several couches and clocks to show he is a relaxed person. I have noticed that there are several arrows across the front cover going in different directions. Possibly these are indicating something, perhaps how he see's his life, he doesn't know where he is going or cant make his mind up about which direction to go. I think this CD front cover is a perfect example of a front cover that both advertises as well as portrays emotions through the use of colour which is support by imagery.
The back of the CD case is very simple and plain, as are most CD backs. They are there to simply show the list of songs available on the CD. The song names can play a key role in representing the genre further. The conventions are clearly followed on to the back of the CD cover. The songs list is on it along with the small print and websites. The theme is clearly followed through on to the back of the cover to help keep continuity withing the CD design.
